Dream Home Makeover: Meet a Pair of Influential Netflix Designers, Sid and Shea McGee

It all started on Instagram. Husband and wife team Sid and Shea McGee began documenting their signature rustic style in 2010. Ten years later, their social media page has turned into a business, and now into a TV show!

In their new series, Dream Home Makeover, the couple tackle a variety of home remodeling projects - from trendy basement theaters to breathtaking kitchens - while juggling home life.

“We've really tried to incorporate the visuals you see on our Instagram page into the show,” designer Shea says exclusively in the latest issue of Us Weekly. “So these are all very naturally lit, bright and spacious rooms. In addition, we mix the dynamics of our family relationship with business. "

Couples who survived the curse of reality TV (so far)
In the office, Sid is the CEO, and Shea is constantly working to improve clients' homes. But when they are not working, they are busy raising two young daughters and building their dream home.

“When we started filming, [creating our home] was a huge part of our life. We were going to start our own business, we sold our very first house and lived on rent while we designed houses for everyone else. So it was a vicious circle moment when we were able to develop our own, ”says Shi. "It took a lot of attention, so it was very natural to be on the show."

Stars who love reality TV
The duo admit that joining the reality show caused some "nerves", especially after their first appearance. A few years ago, a production company "tried to stuff us in a box and make Sid pretend to be a contractor," says the author of Make Life Beautiful. "We are not like that."

The couple also share that the show can truly inspire anyone, no matter what their living space is. “We know that not everyone is in the same situation. So just a few takeaways about what we are doing and how you can use it in whatever situation you are in, says Sid.
